Here’s why this is important:

President Biden hadn’t even assumed office when he tapped California Attorney General Xavier Becerra to head the Department of Health and Human Services–and now the Senate is poised to confirm his nomination.

This would be putting the wrong person in absolutely the wrong situation.

Among the offices at HHS are those that oversee Medicare and Medicaid, children and families, global health affairs, civil rights in health care, substance abuse, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

HHS has authority over a spectrum of issues—federally-funded adoption agencies, regulation of the abortion pill, healthcare coverage for employees, anti-human trafficking efforts, global health, and family planning, to name a few.

Remember that the HHS crafted the contraceptive mandate, which forced many employers—including the Little Sisters of the Poor—into court. Even after the sisters were granted a broader conscience and religious freedom exemption, it was challenged by several state attorneys general, including Becerra.

And that’s only one of Becerra’s anti-life accomplishments.

As Attorney General, he pursued multiple felony charges against David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt of the Center for Medical Progress, which released a series of undercover videos revealing Planned Parenthood’s abhorrent (and illegal) business practices.

He led a lawsuit to stop President Trump from de-funding Planned Parenthood through Title X.

He went to the Supreme Court defending California’s so-called Reproductive FACT Act, which would have forced pro-life pregnancy centers to advertise nearby abortion clinics.
